FARMINGTON — A man accused of kidnapping, assaulting and raping a woman in his Davis County home has been charged.
Brandon Dunaj, 40, of West Point, was charged Friday in 2nd District Court with rape and aggravated kidnapping, both first-degree felonies; forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony; and aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.
Dunaj and the woman went to a concert on Sept. 12 in West Valley City. On the way back to Dunaj’s residence after the show, he began assaulting her, according to charging documents. Police say the attack continued at his house.
“When they arrived at the house he kicked and punched her. The woman tried to get away, but the defendant dragged her toward the house. He let her go and she tried to get in her car to drive away. The defendant prevented her from leaving in her car and pulled her by her shirt and hair into the house where he slammed her face onto a tile floor. The defendant continued to hit and punch the woman in the house,” according to charging documents.
Dunaj then took the woman to a bedroom where he raped her, the charges state.
When he fell asleep, the woman escaped about 3:30 a.m. and began “knocking on neighbors’ doors looking for help,” according to a jail affidavit.
The woman was treated at a local hospital for a severely swollen right eye, as well as bruising around her eye, face, ears and neck, the charges state.
When interviewed by police, Dunaj said the two had gotten into a fight. But he claimed the woman was suicidal and had attempted to jump out of his car, and then kicked and punched him at the house before they had consensual sex, according to charging documents.
