Deer Creek Fire now 90% contained, officials say

DEER CREEK, Wasatch County — The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office gave an update Sunday on the status of the Deer Creek Fire, which sparked Saturday and temporarily closed U.S. Highway 189 in Wasatch County.

Officials said Sunday afternoon that the fire is now 90% contained. They also confirmed that all air assists have been dismissed and they are downsizing firefighting staff.

“The crews are working on mopping up the fire line to make sure there is not any heat on the outside edge of the fire,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

On Saturday, the sheriff’s office said the fire is believed to be human caused. It started before 3 p.m. and required the assistance of several other agencies including Wasatch County EMS, United States Forest Service, Utah Highway Patrol and Utah State Parks.
