BOUNTIFUL — All evacuation orders stemming from the Gun Range Fire were lifted at 11 a.m. Saturday, officials said, allowing Bountiful residents to return to their homes after more than a day.
Officials said Saturday night that the fire is now 80% contained and has burned 321 acres. All evacuations were lifted Saturday morning after an update by Bountiful police Lt. Troy Killian. Officials still advised non-residents to avoid the area.
Mandatory evacuations for neighborhoods in Centerville and Bountiful were issued early Friday morning as the flames threatened homes, but by Friday afternoon the Centerville evacuation orders had been lifted. The Gun Range Fire burned three Bountiful homes and damaged eight others, but no injuries have been reported.
Authorities confirmed Friday the fire was human-caused, probably by a campfire near the Bountiful “B.” Between 300 and 400 Bountiful and Centerville homes were evacuated because of the blaze.
Police said Friday they were looking for two individuals in a small SUV in connection with the fire, but had no updates on the search Saturday morning. Though evacuations are lifted, the roads between the Bountiful "B" and Viewmont "V" are still closed, as is the parking lot near the "B" and Tolman Park.
#GunRangeFire is now 80% contained and 321 acres. A helicopter flew the fire for more accurate mapping which updated the acreage.
