Southbound I-15 ramp reopens after semitruck goes off bridge in North Salt Lake

NORTH SALT LAKE — A semitruck went off a bridge on I-215 in North Salt Lake, landing on the train tracks below and causing a fire, officials said.

Shortly after 1 p.m., Utah Highway Patrol reported the semitruck went off the bridge at the interchange between southbound I-15 and westbound I-215 North.

There were no serious injuries in the crash, UHP Sgt. Nick Street.

The truck went down an embankment and ended up on the tracks after side-swiping a car on the highway, Street said. Both the driver of the truck and the car suffered only minor injuries that were treated on scene, Street said.

The ramp from southbound I-15 to I-215 North was closed until shortly before 2:30 p.m., according to the KSL Traffic Center.

FrontRunner riders should expect delays in both directions throughout the entire rail system as a result of the crash, Utah Transit Authority said. By 6:30 p.m., UTA officials said via Twitter FrontRunner delays were under 10 minutes for all trains.

A bus bridge was in effect for the Woods Cross and North Temple stations but had been canceled by 3:15 p.m., according to UTA. By that time, trains were beginning to run through the affected area at reduced speeds, UTA said.

Officials are still investigating who was at fault in the crash, he said.
