A 3-year-old boy who fell in a hole in Grantsville has died.

The boy and some of his family members were playing in a pile of dirt and dug the hole Wednesday evening.

The children all went inside for dinner, but the boy's family sent him back to get his shoes.

"When he didn't come back in within about 10 minutes they went out looking for him, and that's when they found him. He was buried in the hole, in the dirt pile," said Tooele County Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Sparks. It appears the dirt in the hole collapsed on top of him.

Paramedics were called and performed CPR on the child. Sgt. Sparks says the boy had no pulse when crews arrived. The youngster then was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center, where he died.

The Tooele County Sheriff's Office is not releasing the boy's name at this time. They are calling the incident an accident.
