SALT LAKE CITY — Sen. Orrin Hatch literally hung up the gloves Wednesday.

In a video produced by the Senate Republican Conference, the one-time amateur boxer and seven-term Republican from Utah says goodbye to his Senate colleagues and thanks Utahns for the opportunity to fight for them in the ring.

The video — set to what sounds a lot like an instrumental version of The Who's "Baba O'Riley" — intersperses past clips of Hatch with current ones in which he wears boxing gloves as he reads the newspaper and eats bacon. It ends with him hanging the gloves on a coat rack.

Hatch's 42 years in office come to an end next month. He is the longest-serving Republican U.S. Senator in history. GOP Sen.-elect Mitt Romney, Hatch's handpicked successor, will take his seat.
