SALT LAKE CITY — Former U.S. House candidate Shireen Ghorbani is running for Salt Lake County Mayor, she confirmed Saturday on Twitter.
“I look forward to sharing my vision in detail over the course of this campaign,” Ghorbani said in her tweet.
Ghorbani, a Democrat, previously ran for office against Republican Rep. Chris Stewart in the race for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District. She lost to Stewart, earning 39 percent of the vote to Stewart’s 56 percent, according to state election records.
Ghorbani is the second person to announce candidacy for Salt Lake County Mayor in the past few days. Democrat Jenny Wilson, who lost to U.S. Senator-elect Mitt Romney in the Nov. 6 election, announced her candidacy for the position on Thursday.
Ghorbani and Wilson are vying for the seat that will be vacated by Rep.-elect Ben McAdams, who defeated GOP Rep. Mia Love in the hotly contested race for Utah’s 4th Congressional District.
The Salt Lake County Democratic Central Committee will hold a special election to replace McAdams, likely in late January 2019, Wilson’s campaign said on Thursday.
