OGDEN — One man is dead after fleeing police, crashing his vehicle, running away from officials and then turning around and "aggressively" approaching officers with a weapon Friday evening, police said.

Police responded to reports of a man “acting violently” inside the Walmart located at 1959 Wall Ave., according to a Facebook post from the Ogden Police Department.

An officer stopped the man as he was leaving the parking lot in a car. “As the officer was interacting with the suspect, he sped away and crashed the vehicle,” the post read.

The man then fled the crash scene on foot. As officers followed, the man “turned aggressively toward the officers with a weapon,” Ogden police's statement said.

Police said officers tried to use “intermediate force” but were unsuccessful, which led to two officers shooting and killing the man.

No officers were injured, officials confirmed.

Police have not released the man’s name and have only identified him as a “white male believed to be in his late 30s.”

The Weber County Attorney’s Office will be investigating the incident.
