SALT LAKE CITY — Ben Affleck’s appearance at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention next month has been canceled amid reports the actor has been checked in to rehab, event organizers announced Thursday.

“Even though it is disappointing that he can’t join us, we hope we all can all join together in wishing him health, success, and the best for him and his family,” FanX representatives said in a Facebook statement Thursday evening. “We look forward to another opportunity to meet him in the future.”

“Justice League” star Affleck, 46, was checked into rehab for the third time Wednesday to seek treatment for alcohol addiction, according to PEOPLE Magazine.

“We’ve encouraged him to do what he needs to do to take care of himself and his family,” FanX Co-founder and Marketing Officer Bryan Brandenburg said.

FanX takes place Sept. 6-8 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City.

People who purchased photo ops, superfan packages or “Justice League” photo op combo packages will be eligible for full refunds on those items, according to the FanX website.

People who purchased those items can go to their Growtix order confirmation page for any of the items, according to the FanX website. Click red button beneath the item ordered that says “Refund Product” and the refund will be processed within five to seven days, according to the website.

On Saturday, FanX representatives will be going through and issuing automatic refunds, in case anyone missed an email, Brandenburg said.

The event’s lineup of celebrity guests is extraordinary even with Affleck’s absence, Brandenburg said. It includes Jason Momoa, Laraine Newman, David Tennant, Evangeline Lilly and dozens of others.

He said FanX organizers are preparing to welcome more than 100,000 spectators to the Salt Palace for the largest crowd since the convention started in 2013.

“It’s by far our best lineup ever,” Brandenburg said. “We may have another surprise or two.”
