PAROWAN, Iron County — A person suspected in a vehicle burglary suffered injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening after they were shot by an officer during an altercation with police Thursday morning, officials said.

Officers from Parowan and Enoch police responded to a report of two people breaking into "multiple" vehicles at the Parowan Travel America, 1150 N. 100 West, shortly after 11:30 a.m., said Iron County Sheriff's Lt. Del Schlosser said.

Authorities then encountered a man and a woman and an altercation happened after they confronted them, Schlosser said. At some point, shots were fired and the woman was shot.

She was taken to Cedar City Hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening and is expected to recover, Schlosser said. The name of the woman injured was not released.

The man police encountered, later identified as 34-year-old Jose Flores, was interviewed by police and later taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and burglary, Iron County Sheriff's Office said in a statement early Thursday night.

Schlosser said a third individual described as a person of interest in the burglaries remained at large. A few hours later, that man, later identified as 24-year-old Michael Salvador Torres, was taken into custody after being located at a Family Dollar store, officials said.

Both Flores and Torres are from Nevada, Iron County Sheriff's Office officials said in a statement.

Schlosser didn't say which agency the officer who fired the shot belonged to. The Iron County Critical Incident Task Force is investigating the shooting.

Editor's note: Iron County Sheriff's Lt. Del Schlosser clarified from an initial statement that they were not saying whether it was the man or woman wanted in the burglaries who was shot. Officials later confirmed that the woman was shot. They also said the person they were looking for is a third person who is a "person of interested" in the burglaries.
