PROVO — Officials have identified a woman who died along with her two dogs in a house fire early Friday morning.

Donna Clegg, 47, was inside the home at 1455 S. State Street when the fire was reported about 4:45 a.m. An earlier report indicated Clegg was 48.

Clegg was trapped inside a bedroom while flames were shooting through the home’s roof. A man tried to rescue her before crews arrived but he was unable to reach her, Provo fire officials reported.

Clegg had health issues that may have prevented her from being able to exit the home, officials said.

Officials on Friday said the home, which used to be a video rental store and was later converted into several apartments, should not have been occupied.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
