SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Transit Authority announced Thursday it will suspend FrontRunner service from Ogden to Pleasant View beginning in August.

The service cutoff is scheduled to begin Aug. 12 because federally mandated changes to improve the Positive Train Control system would require “complex and expensive changes to the UTA safety system,” UTA spokesman Carl Arky said in a statement. The Positive Train Control helps prevent collisions, derailments and other issues caused by factors such as excessive speed.

The expected cost would be $1.5 million for continuing service between the Ogden and Pleasant View stations, according to Arky.

UTA will hold two meetings next week with Pleasant View, North Ogden and other northern Weber County residents to allow them to give feedback, Arky said.

The first meeting will be held Monday at the Pleasant View Municipal Building, 520 W. Elberta Drive, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the second meeting will be Wednesday at the North Ogden City Council Chambers, 505 E. 2600 North, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
