STANSBURY PARK — A shelter in place for a public charter school and a lockout for an elementary school issued Friday because of police activity in the area have been lifted, school and district officials said.

Officials from Bonneville Academy, a kindergarten through eighth-grade public charter school, said the shelter in place began shortly before 11 a.m. while Tooele County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of a possible gunman in the area, according to a Facebook post.

However, that shelter in place was lifted shortly before noon. School officials said classes ran as normal during the shelter in place and would continue to do so for the rest of the school day.

A lockout was also placed at Rose Springs Elementary for a “short period of time” due to police activity in the area, according to a statement by the Tooele School District. That lockout was lifted after it was determined there was no threat to the students or staff, the district said.

A call placed with the sheriff's office for further information about the police activity in the area was not immediately answered.
