1 dead after shooting near Bangerter Highway in West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY — One person and a dog are dead after a shooting that took place near the intersection 4100 South and Bangerter Highway.

The shooting took place at about 9:45 p.m. Thursday. The man and the dog who died were in a vehicle at the time of the shooting, West Valley Police said on Twitter.

There were other people in the car during the shooting, but they were not injured, police said.

Authorities tweeted that both directions of 4100 South would be closed between 4000 West and 3600 West. Bangerter Highway was temporarily closed between 3500 South and 4700 South.

Police were asking drivers to use alternate routes in the area.

No other details about the shooting were immediately available.
