HERRIMAN — A man who police say shot at a witness who was following him after allegedly stealing a package off a porch has been arrested.
Unified police officers, along with the West Wendover (Nevada) Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested Patrick N. Laugan, 28, Monday in the gift shop of the Red Garter Casino in West Wendover. Laugan's Chevy Impala was also seized, according to Unified police.
Last Wednesday, a witness saw a couple take boxes off a porch in the 5200 block of Ambermount Drive in Herriman and drive away in an Impala, according to police. The witness attempted to follow the car and take pictures with his cellphone, when a man in a black baseball cap leaned from the front passenger window and fired one round at him, Unified police stated. The witness was not injured.
After police released those pictures publicly, they received several tips about who owned the car, and that the man liked to visit West Wendover, according to Unified police.
Laugan was arrested for investigation of attempted murder. He is being held in the Elko County, Nevada, Jail. Unified police detective Ken Hansen said the woman investigators believe was with Laugan was also arrested. Her name was not immediately released.
