WEST JORDAN — Police on Wednesday attempted to retrace the steps of a man who was found dead in the middle of a residential street.
The death of Dan Zuniga-Guzman, 22, is being treated as a homicide.
About 1:30 a.m., at least two cars were causing a disturbance near 6700 South and 4800 West. The commotion was so loud that it caused several residents to look out their windows, said West Jordan police detective J.C. Holt.
"There was something going on in the streets with the cars that led them to believe it was a car crash," Holt said.
But when officers arrived, the cars were gone, and Zuniga-Guzman was found facedown and deceased in the middle of the street.
"It looks (like) he was dumped there, left behind by a vehicle, and was possibly killed in another location or said vehicle," Holt said.
The victim had "obvious injuries" that were not consistent with a car crash, he said. Investigators declined to say what kind of injuries the man suffered.
Holt said Zuniga-Guzman lived very close to where he was found. Investigators were attempting to talk to family members to find out what the man was doing Tuesday night.
Zuniga-Guzman had a warrant out for his arrest at the time of his death for failing to attend a scheduled court appearance last week, according to court records. He was charged with assault by a prisoner, a third-degree felony, and two other misdemeanors for allegedly kicking and spitting on police who attempted to draw blood from him during a suspected DUI stop, the charges state.
