(KSL News) The West Jordan police officer accused of sexual misconduct while on duty made his first court appearance today.
Nelson Tuatagaloa has bailed out of jail and was surrounded by family members as he made his way in this morning.
The officer's attorney, Greg Skordas, said he's unaware of what evidence prosecutors have. He said, "We don't have any information about the case yet. They didn't have any reports or anything, so I don't know that there's anything I can say."
Prosecutors filed two charges of forcible sexual abuse against the officer.
Charging documents say Tuatagaloa was one of several officers who responded to a call of a suicidal woman, last week.
Prosecutors say Tuatagaloa offered to take the woman to the hospital for a medical evaluation but parked in a dark area and sexually abused her.
The West Jordan Police Department has put Tuatagaloa on administrative leave without pay while the investigation continues.
