(KSL News) -- President Thomas S. Monson, first counselor in the presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, celebrates his 79th birthday today.
President Monson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was chairman of the Deseret News for 19 years before being called as a general authority of the LDS Church.
He will celebrate his birthday at home with his wife, Frances, and their children and grandchildren.
