SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- An 18-year-old will return to Utah to face charges in the death of his mother whose body was hidden in a freezer after she was shot twice in the head and her throat cut.
Jeremy Hauck of Bountiful waived his right to fight extradition Tuesday in a Missoula, Mont., courtroom, said Steve Major, Davis County deputy attorney. Hauck was arrested at a Missoula motel on Aug. 9.
Two Bountiful police officers are expected to bring Hauck back to Utah on Wednesday, said police Detective Randy Pickett. Hauck will then be booked into the Davis County Jail, he said.
An arraignment could be scheduled in Farmington's 2nd District Court for Friday, Major said.
Hauck is charged with murder and the theft of his mother's car and a firearm from their condominium.
The body of Laura Hauck, 51, was found in a chest-style freezer on Aug. 7 in the Bountiful condominium she shared with her son. Police had been asked to check on the pair, who had not been seen or heard from since Aug. 4.
There was a pool of blood on Laura Hauck's bed and a trail of blood leading to the freezer in a utility room, according to an affidavit filed in 2nd District Court.
Police found bloody clothes in the bottom of a laundry basket in Jeremy Hauck's bedroom and blood residue in a sink, according to the affidavit.
Investigators said Tuesday they believe Laura Hauck was killed in her sleep, because she was wearing pajamas when her body was found.
Also, police said Jeremy Hauck had three guns in his possession when he was arrested in Missoula. Prosecutors said Tuesday they had evidence that he bought one of those guns the same day his mother was killed.
Major said investigators had no motive in the crime.
Laura Hauck grew up in St. Ignatius, Mont., and her funeral was held Saturday in St. Ignatius.
Family members have said Jeremy Hauck was quiet and introverted, but his mother never indicated he was any trouble.
