SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police confirmed they were investigating a 39-year-old man's death as a homicide Tuesday evening.
The man was killed inside his residence at the Trolley Place apartment complex, 520 S. 500 East, shortly before 6:45 p.m., said Salt Lake police detective Richard Chipping.
Investigators believe the alleged killer, a 22-year-old man from Salt Lake County, was the person who called police to the scene. Police responded to the apartment on the report of an assault, Chipping said. Emergency medical responders were called to the same location on the report of an unconscious man.
The alleged killer was taken into police custody for questioning, Chipping said.
The two men, who were acquaintances, were in an argument after the 22-year-old had come over to visit, according to the detective. That dispute allegedly escalated into a physical altercation. It wasn't clear Tuesday what the men were arguing about.
The alleged killing occurred without the use of a gun or a knife, but exactly how it happened wasn't immediately known, Chipping said. There were no outstanding suspects Tuesday night, he said.
Neither man's name was released Tuesday night.
