American Public University System names new president

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Karan Powell has been named president of American Public University System.

Powell is the University System's executive vice president and provost. She replaces Wallace Boston, who will remain CEO of parent company American Public Education Inc.

The University System says in a news release that Powell's appointment is effective July 1.

American Public University System offers 90 online degree programs through American Public University and American Military University. Its headquarters are in Charles Town.
