The Oxbow Jail will be reopening, at least a part of it.

Late this afternoon, the Salt Lake County Council approved $640,000 to open 184 beds in the 560-bed facility.

"We will not begin placing prisoners in there until probably after the first of the year, at least after November, because we will have to have final approval on the total operational budge," Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder said.

The $640,000 is just the initial cost. The county is expected to spend another $4.8 million in the next fiscal year.
