SALT LAKE CITY — A man wanted for the violent assault of a 19-year-old Taylorsville woman in February has been returned to Utah to face a charge of attempted murder.

Eliese Tupou Olive, 32, of Salt Lake City, was arrested March 11 with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service in Las Vegas. Wednesday, he was extradited back to Utah and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. He was charged earlier this month, along with Jeffrey Hanson, 34, with attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault.

On Feb. 29, Hanson picked up the 19-year-old woman and took her to his Taylorsville home where they, along with Olive, smoked heroin, according to charging documents.

At some point, police say the woman asked Olive if she could use his tablet computer. He said no and she went downstairs. Olive followed her downstairs a short time later and started punching her in the face while Hanson watched, the charges state.

"When (she) asked Hanson for help, Olive told her to shut up and instructed Hanson to tie (her) up," according to charging documents.

Both men then allegedly punched the woman and hit her with pool cues. They used tape and zip ties to tie her to a chair, shoved articles of clothing in her mouth and wrapped clothing around her head and secured it with tape, the charges state.

The woman freed herself after finding a knife on the floor. But as she attempted to leave, Hanson grabbed and held her while Olive stabbed her in the stomach multiple times, the charges state. Both men then resumed punching her before forcing her back into the basement, according to police. The woman eventually escaped by crawling through a window.

Hanson was arrested March 5 after he was spotted walking near 3300 South and 100 East.
