TAYLORSVILLE — Detectives are searching for a person of interest after a 19-year-old Taylorsville woman was stabbed, beaten and tied up Monday, police said.

The woman was in extremely critical condition around 3 p.m. when she made her way to a home next door to where she lives at 4428 S. Jarrah St., Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder said.

The neighbor answered the door, immediately saw the woman's injuries and called police, Winder said. She was taken to a hospital, where she improved to serious condition Monday night.

The woman appeared to be stabbed, heavily beaten and bound, but investigators didn't know Monday night who attacked her, where the attack occurred or how she may have escaped. Police are searching for a man who lives at the home with the woman. He is considered a person of interest in the case, but police are currently declining to identify his relationship to the woman because he hasn't been named as a suspect, Winder said.

Officers initially stationed themselves outside the home where they believe her attacker might be. After they remained outside for a time, they entered the home Monday evening to find nobody inside. Winder said it was "a little frustrating" that police had to wait as long as they did to make entry.

"We had our reams amassed and actually couldn't find a judge for a while," he said.

Unified police are familiar with the home "from some past history," Winder said, though he didn't specify what kinds of cases officers respond to there.

Police believe the attack was an isolated incident.

"There's no immediate threat to any of the (nearby) residents," Winder said.

The woman underwent surgery Monday evening. Winder said police hope they can speak with her soon about what happened to her.
