LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials are looking at the light rail as the best type of transit to link the airport, the Strip and downtown Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Sun reports a light rail system that would require billions of dollars to build and operate is not yet reflected in the Transportation Investment Business plan, projected to cost as much as $12 billion Regional Transportation Commission senior director of engineering and technology David Swallow told the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority board that of multiple technology systems, the light rail can be easily expanded while attracting a different type of rider.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada residents who say they were lured into buying solar panels and then gypped by a recent price hike are suing NV Energy. Las Vegas solar panel owners John Bamforth and Stanley Schone filed a complaint Jan. 12, alleging the company manipulated regulators into approving higher prices effective Jan. 1. Plaintiffs say they invested tens of thousands of dollars into solar systems but now won't be able to pay them off in a reasonable amount of time because of the change.

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — A high-tech engineering and manufacturing corporation in Sparks has secured a NASA contract for an unmanned shuttle. KOLO-TV in Reno reports that Sierra Nevada Corporation was awarded the contract Thursday for its Dream Chaser shuttle. Company spokeswoman Brooke Salkoff says the contract will open the door for Sierra Nevada to do more commercial initiatives.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say burglary suspects trying to elude an officer in their vehicle, leading to a pedestrian and several others getting injured. KLAS-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1Pyefmi) that the incident took place Friday after police received calls about several males carrying items out of a home
