WASHINGTON (AP) — Cabinet members will be traveling around the country in the coming days to help promote President Barack Obama's State of the Union proposals. The White House says the "road tour" is geared toward highlighting pressing issues facing the country such as climate change, health, criminal justice and access to opportunity.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration is asking for new war powers to fight the Islamic State group. The plan would take the fight beyond national borders and would allow it to expand to any "closely related successor entity" to IS. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tells ABC he won't push lawmakers to approve it because he fears it could "tie the hands" of the next president.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police in Philadelphia say someone approached an officer on the street and alleged that the man who ambushed a patrolman in his cruiser last week "had an affiliation to a group with radical beliefs." Because it may pose a threat to other officers, the department has alerted all personnel about the tip. Police and the FBI are investigating the credibility of the information.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton is brushing off Donald Trump's persistent swipes at her husband, the former president. The Democratic presidential front-runner tells CBS that Republicans have a history of trying to dig up dirt on the Clintons, and if they want to recycle that now, that's their business. And she adds that it "didn't work before, won't work again."

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Army Corps of Engineers is opening a major spillway near New Orleans for the first time in years, seeking to decrease the flow of the swollen Mississippi River. Heavy Mississippi Valley rain has sent the river to its highest stages since 2011. The NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports that New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is praising the spillway for safeguarding the city.
