SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's Karen community came together Saturday to observe Karen New Year, which marks the end of one rice crop, the start of the next and the time when new houses are built. Traditional celebrations include song and dance and traditional fare.
The Karen are an indigenous people from Myanmar. Hundreds of Karen refugees have been resettled in Utah in the past decade.
