A new study shows children become much less active as they head into their teenage years.
The American Medical Association tracked preteens over six years. They're finding many playful 9-year-olds become downright sluggish by the time they turn 15.
Lynda Blades with the Utah Department of Health says they conducted a similar study and found a change from third to fifth grade. "That's really in line with what this study is showing. Rates of physical activity are decreasing as children get older and into their teen years," she said.
Blades blames it on video games and other indoor entertainment, but she says parents can combat it by planning outdoor activities.
