Sandra Yi ReportingThere's new information about a deadly shooting in Salt Lake City early yesterday morning. The alleged shooter is now behind bars.
A man opened fire in a commons area just southwest of the Gateway Mall, killing a man and injuring a woman. Police say it was a revenge shooting.
Witnesses identified the shooter as Anthony Zinnerman. Last night, police got a tip that he was at an apartment complex near 1300 South and State Street. They surrounded the complex and sent in the SWAT team. When Zinnerman saw the officers, he gave up peacefully.
Misty Thompson, Apartment Resident: "I seen the cop with his gun and heard, 'get down, get down on the ground now'. That's when we barricaded ourselves in the back bedroom until it was all over."
Robert Thompson, Apartment Resident: "It's real scary, especially when bullets can go through walls and damage people that are completely innocent and don't even know what's going on."
Authorities say Zinnerman was arrested last month on a drug-related warrant and recently got out of jail. He has a violent past, which includes assault, burglary and multiple drug charges.
Police say the shooting victim was also recently in jail on drug charges and was released on Tuesday. They say the shooting was drug-related and the motive was revenge. Police are still trying to notify the victim's family, so they have not released his name, but they say he's a Mexican National.
He was in the area of 200 South and 500 West, yesterday morning, when Zinnerman showed up. The victim was shot multiple times. A woman was also hit in the shoulder, but is expected to recover.
Zinnerman is now in jail, for murder and attempted murder.
