EXPERIENCE — Baltimore police commissioner, September 2012 to July 2015; police chief, Oakland, California, from October 2009 to November 2011; October 2002 to October 2009, police chief, Long Beach, California (except July to October 2007, when he was city manager). Started career in law enforcement as police officer in Long Beach.

FAMILY — Father of three.

QUOTE — Referring to 43 homicides in Baltimore in May: "These are not numbers. These are people — human beings who lost their lives in the streets of Baltimore."
