Lance Bandley ReportingMajor changes are underway for I-15 that will affect the commute. UDOT is restriping all the car pool lanes.
"We've gotten a lot of complaints from carpoolers saying that a lot of people in the far left lane just cut into the HOV lane to pass somebody," says UDOT spokesperson Bethany Eller.
Eller says instead of one solid white line there will now be two solid lines except five sections where it will be a dotted line which will allow carpoolers and express commuters to go in and out of the new express lane. So starting in September you won't be able to go in and out where you want, like you do now.
"Our engineers have really looked into this and really think this is the key way to stripe the lane to make it the most effective," says Eller.
UDOT has also hired two full-time troopers to enforce the new express lane rules and look for violations.
