TOQUERVILLE, Washington County — A Santa Clara woman is dead after the car she was riding in went off a cliff near the Toquerville Falls recreation area.

The driver of the car, Mark James Wyler, 21, of St. George, called 911 about 6:20 a.m. saying he had just crashed his car and believed his girlfriend had been killed, police reported.

Cierra Perez, 20, was killed in the crash.

Investigators say Wyler's car went off the cliff about 200 feet from the dirt road leading to Toquerville Falls, a popular recreation area. The car rolled about 100 feet down the rugged slope before stopping.

Police believe the couple was not wearing seat belts. Alcohol is being investigated as a possible contributor in the crash.

The accident is being investigated by the Washington County Sheriff's Office and Utah Highway Patrol.
