PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) — A helicopter belonging to a European Union mission in Kosovo crashed Tuesday during a training flight at the country's main airport, injuring one medical evacuation worker, officials said.
Kosovo airport spokeswoman Valentina Gara said the helicopter belonged to the EU's rule of law and justice mission. The airport was temporarily closed after the crash and the injured person was taken to the hospital, she said.
An investigation has been launched to determine what caused the crash.
Roland Bless, the spokesman for the mission, known as EULEX, said the helicopter was on a training flight with two members of a medical evacuation team and two pilots. He did not elaborate on the medical worker's injuries.
All crew members are part of the Starlite Aviation company, which EULEX pays for transportation services.
The EULEX mission helps Kosovo authorities fight organized crime, corruption and war crimes committed during the 1998-99 Kosovo war.
