(KSL News) -- Single drivers can soon buy their way into I-15 carpool lanes. The Department of Transportation is launching a new website to sell passes for the HOV lane.
They'll be good for 38 miles of the carpool lane from North Salt Lake to Orem. Transportation leaders believe the HOV lane could handle twice the amount of traffic they handle now.
Bethany Eller, UDOT: "We've had concern from many carpoolers that this will add time to their commutes, but again, we are only selling 600 tickets to make sure carpoolers are still getting the benefit of those express lanes."
Express Lane passes will be available in August for $50 a month.
