SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah unveiled the highly-rumored white helmets Monday in a YouTube video posted by the university.
The video shows head coach Kyle Whittingham standing before his team prior to a meeting, asking where team captain Nate Orchard is located. With a disappointed tone, Whittingham says, “What a great example.”
Orchard walks in wearing his uniform, upon which Whittingham tells him he’s wearing the wrong helmet. Whittingham unveils the white helmet and the team goes wild.
Releasing new varieties of uniforms for teams has been a trend for most football programs lately, with the Oregon Ducks showcasing a new uniform each week of the season.
As can be seen in the video, the players are excited for the new edition to their uniform.
The white helmet will be worn when Utah travels to Michigan to take on the Wolverines next Saturday.
The last time Utah had a white helmet was in the early 1970s.
