SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s offense came to play Saturday against visiting Fresno State — a team that barely missed the cut for a BCS bowl last season — and won big, 59-27.

On the first offensive play of the game for Utah, quarterback Travis Wilson connected with Dres Anderson for a 41-yard gain.

Beautiful throw by Wilson for the first #Utes offensive play.

It didn’t take long, though, for the game to get out of hand as Utah took a 17-0 lead in the first quarter and built on the momentum throughout the game.

I have a feeling the Utes are gonna do pretty good this year

#Utah up 17-0 on Fresno State in 1st, so that puts a bit of a damper on USC’s domination of the Bulldogs last week. Good for Utes, though.

Utah’s defense was not to be outdone, though, holding Fresno State to four total yards of offense in the first quarter, showing a much-improved style of play and intensity.

Dear Kalani, I take back everything I said last week. You are AWESOME! #Utes

— Brandon Fleming (@murphy1118) Sept. 6, 2014

The defense managed seven sacks on Fresno State’s quarterbacks Brian Burrell and Brandon Connette and had 13 tackles for loss of yardage.

Utah is embarrassing Fresno State.. 31-7 before halftime? Wowzers. I actually thought Fresno would really challenge the Utes. #Whoopsie

#Utes are gonna win a lot of games if they play more halves like this one.

Utah is a team I think could sneak up on Michigan if they take them for granted. Keep an eye on the Utes

— Toddy〽️ (@ToddyBjr) Sept. 6, 2014

Hard to say how good this team is yet. Fresno has been destroyed by both USC and now the Utes and Utah has done it with few takeaways.
