(KSL News) Administrators at West Jordan Middle School confirm that a 15-year-old student brought a gun to school.

West Jordan Police Sergeant Greg Butler said, "He hid it outside the building under one of the portable classrooms, under the skirting, underneath that. The weapon wasn't loaded. There was no ammunition with the gun."

Police say a student who saw the boy hide the gun alerted school officials. When police confronted the boy, they say he told them he was afraid of getting beaten up and brought the gun to scare the bullies.

The boy was suspended for 180 days and could face criminal charges.
