(KSL News) The 47th Annual Sterling Scholar Awards ceremony took place tonight at Cottonwood High School.

Top performing seniors were recognized for achievement in English, Mathematics, Social Science, Science, Foreign Language, Computer Technology, Trade and Technical Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Business and Marketing, Speech/Drama, Visual Arts, Music and Dance.

There were 676 nominees from 52 Wasatch Front high schools.

Scholarship money totaling $46,700 was awarded to winners and the runners-up.

The Deseret Morning News and KSL Television developed the program to recognize and encourage the pursuit of excellence in scholarship, leadership and citizenship of high school seniors in Utah.
