SALT LAKE CITY — A man who police say carjacked a vehicle was arrested after ramming a police car, forcing officers to break the driver's side window and Taser him.

A West Valley man was about to leave his home Friday afternoon when a man came up to him and asked if he could get a ride to the gas station, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.

But while they were driving, the man "pulled out a black knife and pushed it against (the driver's) chest and told him to pull over and get out," the jail report stated.

Before he got out of the vehicle, the man also demanded the car owner's wallet, according to the report.

Police quickly tracked the man down by using the vehicle's OnStar GPS system. Salt Lake police went to the area of 400 South and 300 West, where they found the man still in the stolen vehicle in a parking lot, Sgt. Robin Heiden said.

As officers approached the vehicle to make a felony arrest, the man tried to escape by ramming his vehicle into a police car, Heiden said. An officer who was standing behind the vehicle suffered minor injuries, she said. There was no one inside the patrol car.

Other officers ran up to the vehicle, broke out the driver's side window and used a Taser to get the driver to stop, Heiden said.

Michael Montague, 25, was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault and aggravated robbery. He was also wanted on numerous outstanding warrants for theft, possession of stolen property, and theft by deception, according to the report.
