LOGAN — Cache County residents are being told to watch their irrigation system after oil was washed into a canal Saturday.

According to the Cache County Fire Department, the oil was discovered around 7 p.m. Saturday in the Lower Canal that runs through Hyde Park and North Logan.

The oil came from a chip project on 1800 North in North Logan, and was washed into the canal by a rainstorm Saturday.

Teams were working to contain the oil, and in the meantime, residents are told to monitor their irrigation system. If the water appears brown or has an unusual odor, they are told not to water.

Anyone with livestock or animals should prevent them from drinking the water as well.
