MAGNA — One woman was killed and three other people were injured in a head-on collision Sunday afternoon.
At 1:45 p.m., police received a call of a car accident with injuries. The Unified Police Department and Unified Fire Authority responded and found a white Ford F-150 and red Oldsmobile Alero that had collided near 8400 West and 3600 South, according to Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
The truck was traveling south on 8400 West in the outside lane when the northbound Alero crossed over a two-way turn lane and a southbound lane and struck the F-150 head-on in the outside lane, witnesses told police.
Jodi M. Bailey, 37, of Magna, a passenger in the truck, was killed in the accident, Hoyal said. Bailey was sitting in the middle seat of the truck, next to her husband, 40, who was driving the truck, with their 14-year-old daughter in the passenger seat, according to police.
The driver of the F-150 was taken to a Salt Lake hospital with minor injuries, police said, and the daughter was taken to a West Valley City hospital with critical injuries.
The 17-year-old girl driving the Alero was taken to a Salt Lake hospital with critical injuries, police said. Her condition was later upgraded to serious.
Investigators have not yet determined whether seat belts were worn by the drivers or passengers. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved.
"We don't know what caused this driver to veer across traffic and collide with this pickup truck, but that is one of the things we are going to continue to investigate," Hoyal said.
The crash analysis and reconstruction team was diagramming the scene, collecting evidence and investigating the crash Sunday.
