SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is investigating child porn found in a surprising place: the social media website Pinterest.
State investigators say they never expected to find child pornography on the site.
"We all thought Pinterest was a place to go post your recipes or their decorating ideas," Utah ICAC field commander Patty Reed told the Deseret News. "So we were incredibly surprised to find out people were also using it to pin child pornography and share child pornography."
Since the beginning of the 2013, Utah's ICAC team has started 12 different investigations into people who posted child porn. Charges are pending in all of those cases.
Officials say it's extremely brazen to post porn on Pinterest because there's no privacy on the site and it's easy to see exactly who posted the images.
