Marc Giauque reporting A bill that could make it easier to report drivers who have no business being behind the wheel is revving up on Utah's Capitol Hill.

Right now, anyone who is reported to the Driver License Division has the right to know who filed that report. But Sen. Allen Christensen wants the division to be able to keep the names confidential.

Christensen hopes it will prompt more friends and family members to alert someone that a driver they know should not be behind the wheel. "The consequences are just too much there. We just need to take that burden off of the reporting person and encourage them to report," he said.

The bill passed out of a Senate committee today, but not without opposition. Some senators expressed concerns that the bill would unfairly single out elderly drivers.

One of the witnesses at today's committee hearing also pointed out that if the state takes away a person's driving rights, it also needs to address a lack of other viable transportation options.
