Utah anglers could win $2M in Cabela's contest

SALT LAKE CITY — It's once again the time of year to get out on that boat or into that river and cast a line. This year, as in many years past, anglers could actually win big money just by having a good time.

Cabela's is sponsoring "Fish For Millions," which could see a Utah fisher walk away with $2 million.

This year, tagged fish have been released into 100 ponds and lakes in 22 states, 12 of which are in Utah. Those who catch the tagged fish could win anything from a gift certificate to a $2 million cash prize.

"Cabela's is proud to once again partner with each participating state to offer this year's Fish for Millions competition," said Matthew Kettler, Cabela's Senior Retail Marketing Manager. "We hope the contest encourages anglers — novices and experts alike — to invite their family and friends fishing, and take a few casts for the next big prize."

The full rules for the context are available on the Cabela's website, but the basic idea is this: Folks interested in participating need to register on the website, and then go fishing. If you catch a tagged fish, you enter it in to the website and see what, if anything, you've won.

Grand prize is $1 million, which can be doubled if you download the Cabela's smart phone app two days before catching a fish.

Other prizes include cash, a boat or a Chevy Silverado.

The contest runs from May 5 to June 7. Last year, roughly 10 percent of tagged fish were caught nationwide.
