SALT LAKE CITY — KSL TV will no longer be airing NBC's "Hannibal" due in part to the show's "extensive graphic nature."

Instead, the affiliate will produce a special edition of KSL 5 News at 9 p.m. on Thursdays to fill the time slot, according to a prepared statement released by the station Monday.

KSL received numerous complaints from viewers about the series, which is based on the characters and story lines featured in the novel "Red Dragon" by Thomas Harris. The show follows a criminal profiler working with the FBI to catch a cannibalistic serial killer.

Station management said it remained committed to NBC, calling the network a "valued partner."

"KSL is confident that with the proliferation of digital media, those who wish to view the program can easily do so," the statement reads.

"Hannibal" premiered April 4 of this year.
