SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake City woman faces child endangerment charges after police found drugs at her home while searching for her missing son.
Jessi Marie Overson, 34, was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of child endangerment, a third-degree felony, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor.
According to charges filed Wednesday in 3rd District Court, Overson called police Friday when she couldn't find her 9-year-old son. Overson was in the house with two other children, an 11-year-old and a 2-year-old.
While searching the house to determine whether the boy was hiding somewhere inside, police spotted a glass pipe sitting in plain sight on Overson's nightstand, near one of the children's backpacks, charges state.
Further search of the house and Overson's person turned up another pipe and evidence of methamphetamine, marijuana and an open bottle of vodka, according to charges.
Overson initially told police the boy disappeared while she was in the shower, but later said she had been asleep. The boy was found at his grandmother's residence about 11 miles away, saying he had walked there by himself.
Overson was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail with bail set at $50,000.
