PROVO — A man is in police custody after opening fire on officers who were attempting to execute a search warrant.
Alex J. Opmanis, 20, has been booked into the Utah County Jail and may face charges of attempted homicide.
Officers with the Provo Police Department were assisting the Utah County Sheriff's Office in executing a no-knock search warrant at 454 S. 900 East in Provo Monday evening at about 6:30 p.m.
When officers tried to enter the home, someone inside shot multiple rounds through the front door, according to Provo Police Lt. Matt Siufanua.
Siufanua said officers returned fire and took Opmanis into custody. There were no injuries.
"It's never routine," said Siufanua. "Every time you go up on a door you always know in the back of your mind that something bad might happen. But that's just our commitment to the public in trying to get drugs off the street. Luckily in this case, everybody's OK."
