SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Former mayoral candidate Dave Buhler is being recommended by the chairman of the State Board of Regents to be the interim commissioner for the Utah System of Higher Education.
Jed Pitcher recommended Buhler Tuesday. Buhler has been the system's associate commissioner for public affairs since 2000 and a member of Salt Lake City council. He lost his bid to become Salt Lake City's mayor to Ralph Becker.
The board is expected to approve Buhler's appointment on Dec. 14.
Buhler will replace Richard Kendell, who retires on Jan. 1. The regents continue to search for Kendell's replacement.
