SALT LAKE CITY — Of all the rides at the Utah State Fair, some might scare you to death, but one ride could save your life.
It doesn't look like a ride. It doesn't even look like it would be fun. But inside the Be Ready Utah trailer, you can put out imaginary fires with laser-guided fire extinguishers and even feel what it's like to be caught up in a big earthquake.
The Jensen family went through it and hopes this trailer is as close to the real thing as they ever get. Going to the fair really is supposed to be all fun and games but the Jensens wanted to show their children how important it is to be prepared for disasters, big and small.
"If you practice and you know what's going on before it happens, then you're not so panicked when it really does happen," said Karen Jensen.
That's exactly what these booths and displays are all about. Be Ready Utah wanted to show families how they can be prepared for emergencies: from 72-hour kits, to medical training just in case it will all be needed.
