Note: A former BYU receiver and return specialist (2005-2006), Nate Meikle returns to the KSL Radio airwaves in 2012, reprising the role he previously occupied as sideline reporter for BYU Football broadcasts (2007-2009). During the season, Meikle will post his weekly thoughts in "Nate's Notes."--

It feels good to be back home.

Granted, I never wrote a regular blog during my last KSL rodeo, and while I currently live and work in Las Vegas (and will soon be moving back to Palo Alto to finish my final year of law school), it feels good to be back at KSL Radio covering BYU Football.

But before I get to the football, first a little backdrop...

After my playing career ended in 2006, Greg Wrubell asked me to be the sideline reporter for the 2007 season, and I ultimately held that position for three seasons. In 2009, I decided to attend law school. In April of 2010, I essentially told Greg the following:

"Greg, as you know, I've been looking at a number of different law schools, and several weeks ago I actually told my mother that I would likely be attending law school at Michigan.

However, I just had a change of heart and yesterday informed both my mother and mother-in-law that I will be attending law school at BYU--there's no backing out now. I want to be your next Marc Lyons. Once I graduate from BYU Law, I'll get a job in Salt Lake, conditional on my firm allowing me to work the BYU football games for the next 20 years (assuming you'll let me). I'm all in.

One last thing: I do have a final outstanding application. It's at Stanford. As soon as I get the rejection letter, I'll let you know and we can make my return to KSL official."

Well, the rejection letter never came. Stanford called on my birthday to tell me that I had been admitted. Former BYU cornerback Nate Hutchinson (self-proclaimed "best player you never heard of"), summed it up best: "I just want you to know that your admittance to Stanford doesn't change the way I look at you; it only changes the way I look at Stanford."

While attending Stanford, I followed the program closely. Having played with several of the current players (Mike Hague, Ian Dulan, Ryan Freeman, etc.) and having covered essentially all others during my KSL days, I feel as if I never left. And when the opportunity arose for me to rejoin the crew, I jumped at the chance. Once again, Greg, I hope to be the next Marc Lyons (or just work with you both for the next 20 years).

In the spring of 2010, I wrote in "Cougar Tracks," posting my feelings about Coach Mendenhall, KSL, and BYU Football generally. I mentioned then that being associated with BYU Football and KSL was a life highlight. Here's to another one in the season ahead.
